About Calamus:
This a large smelly plant of the mint family that has sword shaped leafs. It grows
at river banks and swampy areas in Asia, Europe and Northern America. The roots
are harvested during the spring or late fall and dried at a low temperature. Native
American Indians, such as the Canadian Cree Indians have been using Calamus as
a stimulant, euphoriant, as a mouthwash and a remedy for aches and asthma. The
main effects are that the herb is stimulating an that it has a positive effect
on the libido. A small doses has a light euphoric effect, higher doses can give
a hallucinating and a consiousness-expanding effect. Calamus contains the substance
Asarone.
Ingredients:
A alfa-asarone, beta-asarone (the chemical structure of asarone is somewhat
similar to mescaline)
Use & Effect:
The dried root may be chewed or you can make tea ou of it. The doses vary
from 2 to 5 teaspoons, depending on the desired effect. The effects vary depending
on the dose and your own sensitivity. In general two to three teaspoons work
as a an uplifting stimulant while larger quantities, like 4 to 5 teaspoons,
produce an altered state of consciousness and even mild hallucinations.
Warning:
Do not combine Calamus with Mao inhibitors like Yohimbe.
