About Catmint:
This plant is a member of the mint family. In Northern America it flourishes everywhere,
however, people claim that it was imported in the past. Its leaves are downing
above and below and are a little bit larger than peppermint leaves. It was a particularly
popular herb among the women of the Ojibwe tribe; they called it Gajugen sibung.
They used it to be relax and bring down fevers. It is also very popular among
cats, they love to hang out right next to it - it seems to relax them -. Probably
that is where the plant got its name from. One of the active substances, metatabilaceton,
is also present in an Asian plant, actinidia polygama, that the Asians use to
calm down big cats.
Ingredients:
Metatabilacetone, nepatalactone, nepetalic acid.
Use & Effects: The dried leaves can be smoked or used to make tea
with. It is possible to combine it with damiana leaves or with tobacco to intensify
its effects. Its effects are relaxing, and could be compared to the effects
of marihuana, only milder. It is said to be somewhat similar to valerian root.
