What is Rapé Macambo Passionflower?
The Macambo Passionflower Rapé blend contains crushed macambo (Theobroma bicolor) beans and ashes of passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) leaves.
Macambo is a close relative to cacao; its beans also contain theobromine, a compound that boosts serotonin, enhances mood and raises vigor, while also reducing blood pressure and facilitating muscle relaxation – it is similar to caffeine but milder and without the unpleasant ‘jitter’ effect.
The Indians of North America would use the stem, leaves and flowers of passionflower for easing pain and dispelling restlessness. Today, passionflower is known as a 'love enhancer' – in small amounts, it creates a happy, tranquil love buzz, while in larger quantities it can even have a mild psychedelic effect. Because of its overall calming properties, it’s often used to improve sleep, alleviate anxiety, and as a sedative.
Due to the combination of effects of the two admixtures, if this rapé is taken on its own, it can induce a relaxed, lulling sensation, leading into a vivid, detailed dreamscape. Taken before an ayahuasca journey, it can enhance the visionary aspect of the experience, while also grounding the participant and diminishing anxiety.
What to watch out for when using Rapé Macambo Passionflower?
The mild MAOI alkaloids in Passiflora incarnata are known to slightly raise blood pressure, and they can have negative chemical interactions with certain substances. For this reason, it’s not recommended to consume this product if you are taking blood pressure medicines, SSRIs (common depression medication), or if you have taken aspirin (blood thinner), drunk alcohol (vasodilator), or ingested stimulants such as ephedrine or amphetamines (raise heart rate and blood pressure). Additionally, it’s potentially dangerous to ingest Passiflora incarnata if you have consumed food or drinks high in tyramine (sourdough bread, fermented dairy products, processed meats, certain beans, pickles, draught beer, wine, or excessive cocoa).
