About the Strain
Maeng Da is a trade name used for red, green and white kratom varieties. Our red vein version is made from dried leaves of Mitragyna speciosa, ground into a loose powder.
Botanical Background
Mitragyna speciosa grows naturally in tropical parts of Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. The tree thrives in the region’s warm, humid environments.
Its broad leaves have a prominent central vein with smaller veins branching towards the edges. These veins range in colour from pale green to bright red, with the colouring often more noticeable on the underside.
A 2026 study of Thai Mitragyna speciosa documented different vein colours on the same tree: pale green in young leaves and bright red in mature leaves.
