Blue Lily is an aquatic plant from the water lily family, Nymphaeaceae. Its natural range extends from Egypt through much of Africa, with native populations also found in the southern Arabian Peninsula and Comoros. The familiar name Nymphaea caerulea is a synonym of Nymphaea nouchali var. caerulea.
Also known as Blue Lotus, this water lily has floating leaves and fragrant flowers held above the water. Its blue petals surround a golden centre, and the flowers open during the morning and close again in the late afternoon. The plant also has a long cultural history in Egypt, where its flowers appear in ancient paintings and decorative objects.
