Botanical Background
On Borneo, the tree grows in swamp and riverside forests that flood periodically. It can also become one of the dominant species colonising old oxbow riverbeds.
These sites begin as river bends cut off from the main channel when a river changes course. Over time, the isolated water can fill with sediment and develop into wetland.
