About the Strain
This is the red vein variety in our Malay range, alongside Green Malay and White Malay. The powder is made from dried Mitragyna speciosa leaves.
Botanical Background
Known in Malaysia as ketum or biak-biak, the plant has a documented history in Kedah and Perlis, two northern states bordering Thailand.
The tree generally retains its foliage throughout the year in tropical conditions, but can shed its leaves in colder climates. Its seasonal appearance therefore varies with the environment.
Fresh leaves also enlarge considerably as they mature. Fully expanded leaves are typically around 15–20 cm (6–8 in) long, with larger leaves sometimes developing on the central branches.
